The Fox in the past

We have always believed that, in the right circumstances, our local had the potential to be a successful business. There are many different reasons why it has not always been financially successful in the past, and all are things that can be resolved.

The Fox is the only place in walking distance where residents of Folksworth could meet each other for a few drinks, or enjoy a meal out with family and friends.  Around 700 adults live within a one mile radius of the pub, and with no other pubs in the parish. Within a five mile radius there are upwards of 20,000 people; a short distance that most people happily travel for an evening out or a meal.

We have spoken to a huge number of people who say that they would visit the local pub more often if certain improvements were made. Anyone running the pub in future would need to carry out some refurbishment both inside and outside to make it physically more attractive. It would also still need to have a good chef and a good menu, offering lunch and dinner at least six days a week, and excellent customer service all the time. In order to ensure profitability, it would probably need to be purchased outright, or if leased then rents would have to be set at a realistic level.

In future the pub site could also potentially combine its function with other services too, for example a shop, a cafe, a post office counter, a drop-off and collection point, an information point, ticket sales for other local activities, or sports facilities outside. There is plenty of space for a conservatory or extension to the rear for a larger restaurant perhaps. The outdoor area is very large and suitable for marquees and outdoor functions, and extra income could be gained by hosting birthday parties, wedding receptions or other events. Any of these would increase income directly, provide more facilities for local residents, and get more people using it.
